As some of you may or may not know, engagement season is in full effect! Love is in the air, lots of newly engaged couples eager to plan their dream wedding day……yet they don’t have a clue where to start.
Most couples start at the venue, this will set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Others start with their vision, what do we want it to look like? A few others start with their bridal party, they want to make sure their friends are avaliable for their special day.
Is there a right or wrong place to start? Before I answer that question, let me ask you a few:
- What is the average cost of a wedding in your local area?
- What is a food and beverage minimum?
- What is attrition?
- Are you required to have event insurance at your venue?
- What are the typical power requirements for your dj?
- Where do you go to rent linens or extra tables?
- Does your venue have enough tables and chairs for your wedding?
- Do they allow open flame?
- How much time does a photographer need for photos at your wedding
- What is the difference between a highlight reel and feature film?
If you were able to answer all of these questions without consulting Google, then congratulations, you have knowledge about this industry. If you are staring at this list of questions looking really confused then you have come to the right place.
Now back to the answer to my original question….Where do we start planning? The answer is start with a planner! Before you even finalize a budget you need to hire a planner.
Most people will start planning, book a venue that is too expensive for their budget, get overwhelmed and hire a planner to help them “figure” out the rest of the details. By this time it is already too late. A planner is of the most value to you from the very beginning. If your car broke down, would you take out the parts you think that are broken and then take it to the mechanic to fix it? If you are having problems with your computer, would you take out the hard drive first and then take it to the geek squad? If are having electrical issues are you doing to rewire your house and then call an electrician? Nope, Nope and Nope
Then why wait until you have already made decisions on your wedding to hire a planner? We are the experts and we can save you a lot of wasted time and money. If you are newly engaged, please do yourself a favor, hire a planner first and allow them to guide you through the planning process. You will be glad you did!!!!
